Eating Disorders ServiceThe Northern Rivers Eating Disorders Service is an assessment and referral service for both males and females from the age of 14 and up. Children under the age of 14 should be referred directly to the paediatrician, and to child and family health services. The Service offers a personalised assessment which looks at the types of problematic behaviours and thinking, the history of the eating disorder, life stressors and strengths. The Coordinator, Mim Weber, is a social worker and counsellor. She will do the assessment with you, and offer information and support. We ask that you get checked out by your GP, or there are doctors in the region we can refer you to. The initial session takes about one and a half hours. There is a second session of up to one hour. The findings are written up and discussed with you, and we look at what steps to take next. We refer you to a counsellor and/or dietitian/other appropriate person. The service runs groups from time to time, depending upon funding availability. The Eating Disorders Foundation of NSW auspices a support group for adults in the Lismore area. To discuss accessing this option, you can call them on: 02 9412 4499 Consultations are also available to parents, partners and carers of people with eating disorders, to discuss the best way they can assist the person they care for, and how to care for themselves. We also have a range of books which are available to be borrowed from the Lismore & District Women's Health Centre. The Northern Rivers Eating Disorders Support Group has also collated a booklist of available books at the Lismore Library (and associated regional libraries).
