Naturopathy

The centre Naturopath, Cindy Thummel, provides treatments which include traditional herbal medicines, nutritional advice, supplements and Bach Flower/Australian Flower remedies. Assessment is through iris diagnosis and a detailed health analysis. The number of treatments is usually limited, and is negotiated with the practitioner.

In line with our access and equity policy, the implementation of several programs with naturopathic treatments are only available for women with:

  • Eating disorders
  • Post natal depression
  • Lymphoedema after breast cancer surgery

Refresh

Appointments for women in recovery from breast cancer are through the Refresh Project. This project offers women the opportunity to receive a series of six Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) treatments and instruction on the management of lymphoedema. The Refresh Project criteria include:

  • women who have had breast cancer surgeries and may or may not be experiencing lymphoedema of the arms.

Chill Out Clinic

Lismore & District Women's Health Centre in conjunction with Southern Cross University's School of Health and Human Sciences conducts low cost Naturopathic sessions for any health condition. The sessions are conducted on Thursdays by senior Naturopathy students. They conduct the sessions under the full supervision of Cindy Thummel, the centre's Naturopath.
Sessions cost $20.00 for the hour.

Sessions are 1 hour duration, and may include:

  • Dietary advice
  • Herbal and supplement recommendations
  • Massage and relaxation therapies
  • Australian Flower Remedies

Young @ Heart Program

Naturopathic appointments are available for women at risk of heart disease under our Young @ Heart Program. These sessions are conducted through our Chill Out Clinics on Thursdays.

The Young @ Heart project criteria include:

  • have elevated/erratic blood sugars, diabetes or hypoglycemia
  • completed the menopause
  • emotional stress
  • getting less than 7 and a half hours sleep each night
  • diagnosed with hypertension
  • a family history of heart disease or strokes
  • history of pre-eclampsia during pregnancy
  • high intake of trans fats
  • heavy alcohol consumption
  • history of neglect or abuse as a child
  • >li>apple shaped body types
  • smoking cigarettes
  • overweight especially with weight gain after menopause

We also have a range of books which are available to be borrowed from the Lismore & District Women's Health Centre.
