This year, the festival will be hosted by Northern Rivers Women and Children’s Services Inc (NORWACS). YWCA Australia had nurtured the festival over the last five years and it has grown to become an annual event on the local calendar. NORWACS is building on what has already been achieved, and this year are keen to involve more girls, young women and women in business.
“Our biggest day will be the Fair Day on Sunday 6th March 2022. We have expressions of interest open until 24th January for Fair Day, but we will start programming earlier, so get your forms in soon”, says coordinator, Emma Newman. “We are excited to be able to welcome people back to join in the festivities, discussions, workshops, dancing, singing, laughing, networking and relaxing. We invite women and girls to get involved now and in the lead up the festival!”
You can submit a poster design by 20th January. “This is a great way to get involved and express yourself. We welcome any medium and all submissions will be displayed at the festival.”
The Northern Rivers Conservatorium has run the Women in Harmony Pop-up Choir project for almost every year of the festival. They will be rehearsing in February, so sign up if you would like to sing harmonies, conducted by the talented Imogen Wolf.
There are other ways to be involved as a volunteer: help is needed with admin, promotion, art and set up.
This year, the festival is offering a theme: “What’s your story?” International Women’s Day (March 8) theme is “Break the Bias”, and UN Women IWD theme is: “Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.”
“The festival is currently seeking financial support, so donations and enquiries about sponsorships and advertising in our brochure are very welcome,” Ms Newman said.
