Lismore City Council partnered with Lismore Women’s Health and Resource Centre to host a free event to celebrate 2016 International Women’s Day. About 500 women from the region came to celebrate International Women’s Day and mark the ongoing struggle for women to have equal rights which has been ongoing for over a century. IWD was a great day to meet other women in the community, to celebrate women from all cultures and walks of life, and to connect and learn. Free massages were provided & mini workshop topics included mindfulness, nutrition and yoga. A volunteer from the Centre provided an introduction to Art Therapy and her stall was busy all day. The day finished with singing and dancing. And kids had their own entertainment – face painting & games. A particular focus of the day was healthy heart checks provided by Women’s Health Nurses from the centre and Northern NSW Local Health District as part of Healthy Heart for Women project funded by the Heart Foundation. Local Champions for Healthy Heart were also in attendance to motivate and inspire all women to have regular health checks and look after themselves by getting plenty of exercise and eating healthy food.
